Controlling Appetite during Meal Times
Many people struggle to stay faithful to his or her eating plan being that the body will go through stages of increases appetite in between meals. This is a good sign! This means your body is responding. Just like many other things, the mind and body has to be “trained”. Eventually I rest assure you it will get a little bit easier. We are creatures of habit. Think about it. You get up, you automatically go to the bathroom, brush your teeth, take a shower. You don’t have to think about it. You just do it. You were taught to do that at a young age and it became a habit. This is similar if you allow yourself time and patience and consistently if you slip a little…..or a lot!! Some ideas to help decrease your appetite between meals that I suggest are:
- First and foremost, GET YOUR MIND RIGHT. This is going to play the BIGGEST role in your success, so listen to that angel and not the devil on your shoulder. We all have them both!!!
- Find No Calorie Vices. I like to munch on cucumbers, dill pickles, and bell peppers to help subside my appetite.
- Try drinking adequate amount of water and this will help your appetite shift. Try to get in 1-1 1/2 gallons of water a day.
- Add capsaicin into foods. Capsaicin is found in red chili peppers (such as Paprika Seasoning) This component helps release serotonin, a hunger-supressing hormone. It causes the body to become thermogenic, making you feel warm and speeding up your metabolism. It will help activate and stimulate the breakdown of the fat we don’t like (brown adipose tissue or BAT). This is what you feel when you get “hot”. Capsaicin has also been proven to change the components of the microbes in the digestive system and will help to breakdown fats more efficiently. You can buy in pill form or just add spice to food.
